Not much can rival the crisp, lemon-lime flavor of 7UP.
When Did the Drink Originate?
The lemon-lime beverage now called 7UP was originally created and formulated by Charles Leiper Grigg in 1929. Grigg worked on the formula for over nine years at his St. Louis-based company called, "The Howdy Corporation." The product was originally labeled, "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda" because it contained the mood stabilizer, lithium citrate. The name was then shortened to "7UP Lithiated Lemon Soda" and then was later shortened just to "7UP." The beverage was launched just a couple weeks before the Wall Street stock market crash of 1929 that started the Great Depression in the United States. The lithium citrate mood stabilizer was removed from the beverage's formula in 1948.
Different from Other Lemon-Lime Beverages
7UP is different from other lemon-lime beverages because it contains 100% natural flavors and does not contain any artificial flavors or colors. Natural flavors are different from artificial flavors due to one major reason. Natural flavors are derived from a source material that is edible (like fruits or vegetables).
Is This Lemon-Lime Soda Caffeine-Free?
Yes, the 7UP formula does not contain any caffeine, so it's a great fun treat for kids.
